Fukui | Awara Onsen Hot Springs

Relax in the baths of Awara Onsen, one of the Hokuriku Region’s finest hot spring towns

Awara Onsen’s hot springs were discovered in 1883 and are known as Fukui Prefecture's finest hot spring towns. Today, Awara Onsen is home to some thirty ryokan and minshuku inns, and the town's hot baths and warm hospitality are beloved by the annual 1.7 million travelers as well as locals. With 74 different source springs, each ryokan inn in Awara Onsen has unique characteristics to its water, said to have various medicinal properties, for something new to enjoy every time you visit. At the center of the town, there is Yunomachi Square, where you can find one of the Hokuriku region's most superb footbath and Yukemuri Yokocho, a nostalgic restaurant alley offering ramen, okonomiyaki, and more. Visitors can also watch Awara Geisha dances and even dress up as a geisha at Yunomachi Square as well. (reservation needed)
