Special Night View of the National Treasure, Shiramizu Amidado
Shiramizu Amidado was built over 1000 years ago and is the only building designated as a national treasure in Fukushima Prefecture. The harmony with the Jodo-style gardens that embody the Gokuraku Jodo (“Sukhavati” or the “Land of Perfect Bliss”) makes for an elegant and magnificent sight. Amid the changing Autumn leaves, Shiramizu Amidado is lit up and remains open -- even during the night. The large ginkgo trees and the surrounding maples are illuminated, creating a breathtaking golden scenery on the water’s surface. At the time of construction, the ceiling and walls of Shiramizu Amidado were brilliantly colored, but over time the colors faded away and are now almost invisible. This year, to show everyone the original colors Shiramizu Amidado, we are working to restore the original appearance by utilizing projection mapping.
