Ube Biennale Sculpture Exhibition in Tokiwa Park, Yamaguchi Prefecture
Ube Biennale is Japan’s biggest sculpture exhibition, which has been held in Tokiwa Park every two years since 1961. It has attracted international attention in recent years, with many entries sent from around the world. About 100 sculptural artworks including past winning pieces are displayed around Tokiwa Park, where nature and art blend to form a beautiful landscape. Ryokichi Mukai’s “Ant Castle,” a large-scale abstract outdoor sculpture created in 1960, is a piece familiar to local citizens as a symbol of ‘a city of greenery, flowers, and sculptures.
