Clematis no Oka - Art Village and Gardens
Enjoy art, flowers, and slow food in an elegant garden setting
Come to Clematis no Oka, located in scenic Shizuoka Prefecture along the foothills of Mt. Fuji, and explore art in the open air. With multiple museums and restaurants in the premise, visitors can take in beautiful sights of nature while appreciating paintings and sculptures, and treat themselves to regional delicacies prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
Fine art aficionados will be immediately drawn to the Bernard Buffet Museum, which boasts the world's largest collection of works by this French master. Japanese literature fans won't want to miss the Inoue Literary Museum, established to commemorate the award-winning novelist Yasushi Inoue, who spent his childhood in the Izu region.
Stroll over to the Clematis Garden Area and admire the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, the world’s only private art museum by Italian sculptor Giuliano Vangi. If you're feeling hungry, choose from Italian or Japanese restaurants, each offering regional cuisine, or stop by at the teahouse for a cup of green tea, a Shizuoka specialty.
At just over an hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen bullet train and shuttle bus, it's a day trip experience perfect for the artistically inclined traveler. Clematis no Oka is open every day except Wednesdays and during the year-end and new year holidays. Closing hours are earlier at 4:30 pm during the winter months.
