Gunma's largest summer festival filled with heat and excitement
Kiryu Yagibushi Festival is held in central Kiryu City (Honcho Dori, Suehirocho Dori and Nishikicho Dori) for three days from the first Friday to Sunday in August every year. It is a "super-participatory" festival, in which anyone can join in and have fun in an energetic atmosphere. During this period, several yagura towers will be set up across the city, and thousands of people, both locals and visitors, will gather around to dance to the rhythm of the echoing Yagibushi music. The ease of joining in and the freedom of dancing are the reason why people love this festival. You can start by imitating others if it is your first time. Also, the festival program includes a variety of events that both children and adults can enjoy. You can experience some traditions of Japan, such as Mikoshi-Togyo and Hoko-Jungyo during the Kiryu Gion Festival, and a procession of floats will capture both your eyes and heart.
