HYOGO TOURISM BUREAU
Visit a farmer of adzuki red beans, eat a lunch of local ingredients made by his wife, and enjoy their conversation about farming and the slow life of rural Japan. Tamba, a rural community of small towns and quaint villages, can offer such personal experiences and provide a friendly escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Surrounded by mountains and countryside, Tamba, on the eastern outskirts of Hyogo Prefecture, is renowned for picturesque hiking trails, ancient pottery kilns, woven textiles, and chestnut, matsutake mushroom and black bean farming. To immerse yourself fully into its countryside life, Inaka Experiences offers tours that introduce visitors to locals for a personal journey.
Depart from Kaibara Station in a private vehicle with a personal English-speaking guide, and start in the town of Kasuga to meet the farmer of adzuki beans. After trying the beans in homemade dishes, visit the studio of a British ceramicist working in Tamba-yaki, one of Japan’s oldest form of pottery. Next meet a Japanese Tamba textile artisan to learn more about the region’s fabric industry. The tour also includes a stop at Locasse Tamba, a roadside eatery and marketplace featuring local foods and products ideal for souvenirs.
The tour departs from JR Kaibara Station.
