Kiuchi Brewery Tour
Brew your own original beer at the Hitachino Nest brewery
The Kiuchi Brewery creates top quality Kikusakari sake, "umeshu", and "shochu", as well as the popular Hitachino Nest line of craft beers. At its 200-year-old premises in rural Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, you can tour the different areas of the brewery and get a behind-the-scenes look at the processes that make these tipples. From the rice polishing room to the fermentation room and the bottling factory, you can trace the sake from rice to glass. The on-site bar and "soba" restaurant provide the perfect opportunity to taste-test the products on offer.
In addition to touring the brewery, you can also create an original beer in the brewery's dedicated beer studio. Learn about the art of brewing through discussion with Kiuchi’s knowledgable staff, and concoct your recipe while tasting samples from their current range for inspiration. You will measure out the malt, mash it to create wort, then filter and boil before adding hops. The final product will be fermented, aged and bottled by the brewery before being delivered to your door in about four to six weeks.
