Ryokan Kurashiki

Delve into old world Japan with a canalside stay in a traditional inn

An hour west of Kobe is the old town of Kurashiki, a beautiful spot to wander shops and galleries housed in historic buildings. The old district is bisected by a canal and stitched back together with a series of stone bridges, under which canal boats paddle. On the edge of this tranquil water sits Ryokan Kurashiki.
This traditional Japanese inn is a stunner—wooden beams, "tatami" rice mat floors, a beautiful dining room and spacious suites. The best two rooms, the Inui Suite and the Okuzashiki Suite, feature modern Japanese furniture, light and airy spaces and a private cedar bath. Each night, a feast of traditional Japanese "kaiseki" is served, sourced from local providers and plated with precision. Each meal reflects the season in which it is served, and delights diners with every course. To round off the day, make use of Ryokan Kurashiki's hot spring bath to bring you closer to sleep after a long day.
