Recommended season

DAY 1

Take the train from Morioka Station to Kamaishi Station and transfer to the bus alighting at the entrance of Kamaishi Daikannon Statue. Come and see the Kamaishi Daikannon Statue, built as a symbolic prayer for peace and famous for being a power spot. Stand in front of the heart-shaped bell at the front of the Statue for some very Instagrammable photos! In the afternoon, we recommend sightseeing at Jodogahama Beach, with its striking contrast of green pine trees, white rock face and blue sea.

DAY 2

On the second day, in front of Miyako Station, try “Bin Don". This is a unique style of preserving seafood such as sea urchin (a specialty of Iwate Prefecture) in transparent milk bottles. It is brightly coloured and visually pleasing. Afterwards, you will visit Ryusendo Cave - one of the three largest limestone caves in Japan. As you go deeper into the cave, you will see a blue underground lake, giving you an ethereal view of the world.

DAY 3

The next day, take a bus to the Hachimantai City Museum and try your hand at the traditional Appi lacquerware painting. You can make your own original chopsticks or decorative plate using natural materials with unique techniques. In the afternoon, experience Japan’s winter to the fullest by visiting the Appi Kogen Ski Resort, where you can enjoy skiing and many other snow activities. After having fun in the snow, take a dip in the hot springs to warm up and relax your body and mind.

DAY 3 ANOTHER ROUTE

Visit the seasonal wilderness of Hachimantai and Appi - two of the most famous places in Tohoku. Biking through the mountains, you will be overwhelmed by the majestic sight of broad-leaved trees in winter. In the spring and summer, you can enjoy the fresh greenery. And in the autumn, the refreshingly beautiful autumn leaves. Mountain biking is available everyday from June to October. Bicycles for children are available so families can explore and enjoy this experience together.

DAY 4

On the last day of the trip, visit Aomori Prefecture's cultural and tourism exchange facility, Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse, and discover the history and charm of the famous Nebuta Festival. In the afternoon, take a trip to the silver world on the Tsugaru Railway Stove Winter Train. In this retro train with a stove, you can see the snowy scenery from the train window. You can take photos inside the stove-warmed, cozy train. It will be a perfect ending to your trip.
