Seiryuso 蓮台寺温泉 清流荘
A deluxe riverside inn with a 25-meter hot spring pool
Located on the Izu Peninsula close to Shimoda —where Japan famously reopened to trade with the West after a period of isolation—Seiryuso was the first ryokan in Japan selected for inclusion in the elite Relais & Chateaux collection of gourmet restaurants, boutique hotels, resorts and villas. Rooms with private open-air baths and lavish kaiseki meals featuring regional, seasonal seafood and produce are two reasons for this inclusion. An additional reason is the quiet opulence and beauty of this traditional Japanese inn.
Hot spring waters cooled down for extended dips run through the inn's 25-meter pool. Set next to the Torokyo River, Seiryuso is also close to Shimoda's fine white-sand beaches and several temples, including Ryosenji and Hofukuji.
