An Amusement Park in Mt. Fuji’s Shadow

Ride scream-inducing attractions at the base of Japan’s tallest mountain

Fuji-Q offers the best and most thrilling roller coasters and world-record breaking rides Japan has to offer, all with the scenic backdrop of Mt. Fuji, its highest mountain.

The appropriately named Fujiyama roller coaster rises to a vertigo-inducing 79 meters, and reaches a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour—Japan’s tallest and longest. Maybe you’d prefer Takabisha, with a maximum fall angle of 121 degrees; or Eejanaika, a “hypercoaster” with the most revolutions in the world.

If throwing yourself through the air in colorful and exciting ways isn’t your idea of fun, though, you can also take the challenge of finding your way out of the Labyrinth of Fear, a haunted house 9,800 meters long. Meanwhile, the youngest visitors to the park will adore Thomas Land, entirely devoted to Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends.  Many other attractions await at this major amusement park.

Access: From Tokyo Station, take the Chuo Line train to Shinjuku Station (about 15 minutes), walk to the Busta Shinjuku bus station (about two minutes), then take the Yamanakako Hirano bus to the Fuji-Q Highland bus stop (about one hour 40 minutes).
