Upon request, Ittogashi Village will stock your refrigerator with fresh vegetables and free-range chicken, allowing you to whip up a batch of Aizu jidori nabe, a tasty and healthy local hotpot dish sure to warm you from within. Elaborate bento boxes and nourishing breakfasts can also be ordered for evening delivery.

Choose between the two cottages for your escape. Honson Cottage is set in a small rural village filled with traditional Japanese farmhouses. Soak in the paulownia wood bathtub and venture up the dedicated moss-covered stone stairs that lead to a small shrine. Set into a valley, Kawaberi Cottage is a mere two-minute walk from Hayato Onsen Tsuru no Yu, a 1,000-year-old hot spring beloved for its healing waters and gorgeous river views.

Located in the southwest of Fukushima Prefecture, the incredibly scenic journey to get here is part of the joy of a stay in Oku-Aizu. Departing from Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, the JR Tadami Line winds through charming bucolic scenes and breathtaking natural landscapes before arriving at Hayato Station.

Access: From Tokyo Station, take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Koriyama Station (about one hour 25 minutes), transfer to the Ban’etsu West Line to Aizu-Wakamatsu Station (about one hour 15 minutes), then transfer to the JR Tadami Line for Hayato Station (about one hour 30 minutes) and walk for about 10 minutes.
