Gear, A Visual Performance that Transcends Words

Cutting-edge technology and artistic sensibility meet in this moving tale of the future

Fans of art, science fiction, or technology are invited to Kyoto for Gear, a unique non-verbal performance that's sure to enthrall adults and children alike.

The heartfelt story of "roboroids" working in a futuristic factory is told through facial expressions, gestures, and dynamic motion, with the performers showing award-winning talent in breakdancing, mime, magic, and juggling. This is complemented with impressive production values employing everything from the traditional techniques of the kabuki stage to cutting-edge technology including projection mapping, lasers, wind, and sound effects. The total experience is one sure to stimulate all five senses, and with no dialogue, it can easily be followed by visitors no matter their native language.

After the show, explore Kyoto's Kawaramachi area. Just a five-minute walk from the theater, you'll find the Shinkyogoku Shopping Arcade, home to a host of delightful shops selling traditional arts and crafts and other souvenirs. Foodies can walk five minutes further to Nishiki Market, known as Kyoto's kitchen, where you'll find fresh seafood, seasonal delicacies, and more. If you’re looking for a romantic date spot, the banks of the Kamo River are perfect for an evening stroll or relaxing by the soothing waters. From May to September, you can enjoy the Kyoto tradition of riverside dining.

Access: From Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma subway line to Karasuma Station (about six minutes), then walk about 10 minutes to the theater.
