Art Meets Nature on a Grand Scale in Niigata

Experience one of the world's largest outdoor exhibitions at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field

Artists from around the world converge in Niigata Prefecture for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Based around the concept of humanity coexisting with nature, this event sees a vast 760-square kilometer area adorned with some 200 pieces of outdoor art, all created to exist in perfect harmony with their surroundings.

Let your aesthetic sensitivities be touched by works of creativity set in scenic terraced rice fields, mystical beech forests, and the unoccupied houses and buildings of some 200 villages scattered across the landscape.
Though the Triennale itself takes place only once every three years, the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field offers artistic and natural wonders no matter when you visit. Enjoy art exhibits, events, and workshops year-round. Interact with local residents and experience their culture and lifestyle, indelibly tied to the land they inhabit. From the verdant greenery of summer to the deep-snow landscapes of winter, each season offers its own unique delights.

Access: From Tokyo Station, take the Joetsu Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station (about one hour 15 minutes), then transfer to the Hokuhoku Line to Tokamachi Station (about 30 minutes).
