Explore the center of pearl culture by boat and bike
This long-distance course is best for seasoned cyclists, although the terrain is fairly flat. Starting from Kashikojima, the route heads north toward Ugata Station (along a fairly busy road) before turning right to follow National Road 260 down toward the Sakishima Peninsula. This section of the road has few traffic lights, which promises a smooth and enjoyable cycling experience.
The Sakishima Peninsula has a long, elongated shape, and is crossed north to south by various small roads, making route modifications and extensions easy. There are various charming fishing villages in the area that are well worth visiting if you have time.
To return to Kashikojima, take the Ago Bay Liner boat from Wagu Port (to bring a bike on board, you'll need to pay a luggage fee on top of the ticket price). The 25-minute boat trip gives unparalleled close-up views of Ago Bay, with pearl-farming rafts bobbing in the inlets.
