鹿児島県の名勝「仙巌園」の美しさを堪能する

日本の最高水準の御殿と庭園がたたずむ「仙巌園」は、鹿児島市の中心地からわずか20分のところにある穏やかな場所です。

約5万平方メートルに及ぶ仙巌園は、日本の南端のこの地域を代々統治し続けてきた大名家・島津家の19代当主によって1658年に築かれました。日本の歴史を形作った誇り高き武士たちの足跡をたどり、彼らも眺めたであろう光り輝く錦江湾と活火山・桜島を一望し、感動を共有してみてください。

ユネスコ世界遺産の構成資産でもある仙巌園は、霧島錦江湾国立公園の大自然に囲まれています。800年に及ぶ島津家の歴史、地域の産業革命遺産、明治時代（1868－1912)の日本の近代化について学ぶことができる「尚古集成館」も隣接しています。この地域のもう一つの特産品として挙げられるのは、鮮やかな色彩と繊細なカット、ぼかしと呼ばれる色のグラデーションが特徴の「薩摩切子」で、園内の直営店で販売されています。

Take in the beauty of Kagoshima’s Sengan-en

Sengan-en is a classic Japanese manor house and garden, a tranquil oasis just 20 minutes from Kagoshima’s city center.

Spread over 12 acres, the estate was built in 1658 by the 19th head of the Shimazu clan—a storied lineage of samurai lords who ruled this part of Japan’s far south. Stroll in the footsteps of proud warriors who shaped Japan’s history, and share the inspiration they must have felt gazing out on panoramic views of glittering Kinkowan Bay and Mt. Sakurajima, an active volcano.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is set amidst the natural beauty of Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park and adjoined by the Shoko Shuseikan Museum, which explores the 800-year history of the Shimadzu Clan, the region’s industrial heritage and the modernization of Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1912). For a closer look at another local export, admire the skilled craftsmanship on display at the Satsuma Kiriko Glassworks. Here they produce Satsuma Kiriko, characterized by its vivid colors, fine cuts, and color gradation called “bokashi”, which is sold in the onsite shop.
