日本最古の湯と言われる道後温泉は、愛媛観光には欠かせないスポットです。中でも、道後温泉本館は、アニメファンなら見覚えがあるでしょう。日本で最も権威のあるアニメスタジオが製作した、映画賞受賞の作品に登場する湯屋のモデルになったと言われています。
建物の中は、廊下や部屋、階段が複雑に入り組み、迷路のような構造になっています。この伝統的な木造建築や畳の部屋を見ると、昔にタイムスリップしたかのような感覚を覚えるでしょう。100年以上前に皇族がこの温泉地を訪れた時の様子も容易に想像できるはずです。
道後温泉本館では、温度の違う18本の源泉からくみ上げられたお湯を混ぜ合わせ、適温にしています。この弱アルカリ性のお湯は、刺激が少なく、敏感肌の人も安心して入浴できます。なめらかなお湯につかると、健康効果と究極の癒やしの両方を得ることができるでしょう。
この伝統ある温泉街へは、JR松山駅、または松山市駅から路面電車でわずか15～20分です。松山空港へは、羽田空港から飛行機で95分です。
道後温泉本館は営業しながらの保存修理工事中のため、１階で入浴できますが、２階・３階休憩室は休止しています。

Any trip to Ehime Prefecture should include a stop at Dogo Onsen Honkan, arguably the oldest hot spring in Japan. Fans of Japanese animation may recognize the building's façade—it's said Dogo Onsen Honkan inspired the bathhouse in an award-winning film by one of Japan’s most prestigious anime studios.
Inside, you’ll discover a labyrinth of hallways, rooms, and staircases. The tatami and wooden designs make you feel as if you've been transported back in time. You can imagine what it must have been like over a century ago, when the hot spring famously hosted the Imperial Family.
Dogo Onsen Honkan mixes water from a whopping eighteen different springs to ensure the perfect temperature for your bath, and the alkalescent spring is very gentle making it ideal for even the most sensitive skin. Health benefits and ultimate relaxation both await you in these soothing waters.
This traditional hot spring paradise is easily accessible at only 15-20 minutes by Tram from JR Matsuyama or Matsuyama-shi Stations. Matsuyama is a 95-minute flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
Dogo Onsen Honkan is undergoing conservation and repair work. The bath on the 1st floor is available for bathing, but the resting lounge on the 2nd and 3rd floors are closed.
