Learning how to make emakizushi

Fancy making an artistic rolled sushi that reveals an artwork when you slice it open?

Emakizushi is a not just a regular rolled sushi (makizushi) where you wrap rice and various fillings with seaweed. By making use of the ingredients’ colors and shapes, you can create various artistic patterns on the cross section. At Roll-Sushi School Gururi in Yokohama’s tourist-friendly Motomachi Shopping Street, you can learn how to create emakizushi from a professional sushi instructor. Learn to create cute patterns such as flowers, geometric shapes, bears, penguins, Santa Claus, and more. Both English and Chinese versions of the recipe are available. The highlight of this 90-minute course is the moment you put a knife in the sushi rolls to reveal the artwork.

Upon completion of the course, you can sample your creation and also take home a “Makizushi Evangelist Certificate.” This is a unique experience where you can learn artistic craftsmanship that is different from making ordinary sushi.

4 minutes by walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station on Minatomirai Line (Exit 5) 8 minutes by walk from JR Ishikawacho Station (South Exit)
