Experience canoeing down the crystal clear Kozagawa River in Wakayama

Do you remember the last time you played around in nature? Explore the clear waters of Kozagawa River, the southernmost stream on Japan’s main island of Honshu, and be at one with nature! The river runs through the southern part of the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama Prefecture, famous for its magnificent scenery of huge, oddly-shaped rocks and gorgeous waterfalls, overshadowed by the giant, Ichimai-iwa monolith.

Running for 60km through this picturesque region, the river is ideal for exploring on a canoe. Since the flow of the river is gentle, this activity is suitable for paddlers of all levels – experienced guides will give you a short tutorial before you go on a self-guided tour of the river. The river is so crystal clear that even the riverbed – and fish – can be seen from the canoe, making you feel as if you’re floating in the air! Besides canoeing, you can also experience other river activities, including diving from rocks or catching some freshwater shrimp.
