Follow the famous diving women of Japan to the bottom of the sea

The Mie Peninsula is the home base for a group of Japan’s famous Ama divers. These inspiring women free dive—without tanks or breathing assistance—to incredible depths to harvest kelp, seaweed, oysters and their pearls, as well as the famous spiny lobster. On this tour, you dive into the clear sea with the Ama divers, and let them show you how they work. If you are more of a landlubber, there are also options to watch from the boat.

After collecting shellfish and other seafood, the Ama bring you back to land to prepare a lunch of fresh grilled seafood. The bilingual staff allows you to ask questions and interact with these remarkable women, who have a shared culture between them of history, folklore, and skill. Other Ama-led experiences are also offered, from net fishing to overnight stays on a nearby island.
