Matsunozushi (Sushi Making Experience)
The moment you step into Matsunozushi’s courtyard, you know you’re in for a treat. This classy restaurant in Shinagawa, near Tokyo Bay, has specialized in Edomae sushi since 1910. "Edo" is the ancient name for Tokyo, and Edomae refers to cuisine made with fresh seafood from Tokyo Bay. Now in its fourth generation, family-owned Matsunozushi is headed by Chef Yoshinori Tezuka, a passionate sushi ambassador who has served dignitaries at the 2019 G20 Summit and royalty at the 2019 Royal Windsor Cup.
Chef Tezuka, affectionately known as "Yoshi-san", does not just whip up delightful Edomae sushi made with the freshest seafood; he also holds private sushi-making workshops at Matsunozushi. Watch and learn tips and tricks for making authentic Edomae sushi, including how to properly portion the rice and cut the fish. Participants also get hands-on experience making sushi. To top it off, a luxurious meal selected and prepared by Chef Yoshi himself awaits. This workshop and sushi-making experience can accommodate small groups of up to around 20 people, offering an exclusive sushi hospitality experience.
A variety of other activities are also available to complement your visit. Yoshi-san is also a licensed sommelier and fugu (pufferfish) chef, so for those feeling adventurous, trying fugu sushi is highly recommended. Alternatively, you can enjoy a premium sake-tasting session with exquisite fugu sushi for a truly unforgettable culinary experience.
