Traditional rural features complement a state of the art spa with a wide range of treatments

Perched atop a hill that overlooks the picturesque Ago Bay, Amanemu is a seamless blend of Japanese aesthetics and Western sensibilities. Architect Kerry Hill, who also designed the Aman hotel in Tokyo, was able to incorporate aspects from traditional Japanese farmhouses—such as the sweeping roofs, dark wood exteriors and multiple sliding doors and windows—before adding luxurious furnishings in subtle hues. The result is 24 suites each with a private onsen bath and generous terraces overlooking the scenic national park. The entire property and the surrounding gardens are soothing and meditative.
Achieve ultimate relaxation in the hotel's extensive spa facility, with indoor and outdoor pools of natural mineral water and a long menu of treatments and wellness programs. Designed around a large onsen pool, the Aman Spa has two additional private onsen pavilions, a watsu pool, four treatment suites and a fitness center. The property can also arrange adventures, including visits to the holy Shinto site of Ise Grand Shrine and the UNESCO World Heritage-recognized Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails. All that relaxing is enough to build up a hearty appetite, best remedied with locally grown fruit and vegetables, as well as the renowned Matsusaka beef and a variety of fresh seafood, all served in Amanemu's beautiful hillside restaurant.
