TAPKOP
Nestled in the quiet wilderness of eastern Hokkaido, TAPKOP is a one-of-a-kind retreat where nature, cuisine, and solitude blend into a transformative stay. Welcoming only one group per day, the wooden villa offers a level of privacy and calm rarely found in today’s world. This exclusivity allows you to fully immerse yourself in the lush forest environment of the surrounding Akan-Mashu National Park.
TAPKOP is based around the concept of living with nature as your neighbor. The spatial interior layout is accented by pieces of driftwood from the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as other natural objects collected from the town’s local forests. Large windows offer unfettered views of the trees and Mt. Optateshke off in the distance. On a clear night, enjoy the moon and stars shining brightly in the dark sky from the villa’s open deck, followed by an open-air hot bath in a repurposed miso barrel tall enough to stand in. Every element here is crafted to evoke the passage of time.
At the heart of a TAPKOP stay is its culinary philosophy. Dinner at the exclusive, on-site restaurant is specially prepared by a Hokkaido-born chef with locally sourced ingredients including seasonal game. Breakfast is both healthy and hearty, centered around Hokkaido vegetables. Every dish is thoughtfully connected to its origins, embodying a deep respect for local producers and reflecting the richness of eastern Hokkaido’s food culture.
Sustainability is woven into every aspect of TAPKOP. By sourcing responsibly, minimizing environmental impact, and honoring the culture of the region, the lodge offers not just accommodation but a meaningful, place-rooted experience. TAPKOP invites travelers to discover the profound calm, natural beauty, and culinary depth found only in eastern Hokkaido.
