Immersive, art and design-focused accommodation born out of Japanese architectural tradition

Curation Hotel

Curation Hotel is a "whole house" holiday rental concept that enables guests to experience elevated creative sensibilities, while contributing to the sustainable preservation of traditional architecture and craftsmanship. Storied properties are restored to their former splendor, then transformed into luxurious, art and design-filled vacation homes whose fusions of tradition and modernity, Japanese and Western offer unique aesthetic experiences.

Among a growing number of locations, several properties in Atami illustrate the Curation Hotel concept of imaginative, sustainable renovation that presents a fresh perspective on local culture, nature, and history, as well as the singular characteristics of each building.

Tounoya-an, a former ryokan annex constructed in 1933, has been reinvented as a "private boutique hotel" by a renowned designer. Japanese interior design is combined with contemporary Western-style furnishings, with this eclectic yet harmonious approach echoed by a judiciously selected collection of art works encompassing Japanese antiquity and bold modernity.

Momoyama Gaen, meanwhile, is a 1970s vacation home reborn as a luxurious space themed on the mountains and ocean surrounding Atami as well as Japanese artistic tradition. Centerpiece of the property is an expansive, open-plan living-kitchen-dining area that contrasts an imposing painting of Mt. Fuji on one wall with a stunning ocean view directly opposite.

Besides opulent accommodation for the design-conscious, Curation Hotel also offers tailor-made activities and experiences, from private Noh performances to sea fishing excursions. A stay at one of the properties is to experience the best in Japanese and international art, craft, and design, not to mention enjoy one-of-a-kind activities.
