Day 5: AICHI - Kimono experience → Inuyama Castle → Honmachi-dori
Day 5: A trip back in time around Inuyama Castle
Hello everyone!
Let’s continue with my final day, Day 5. Today, I am bringing you to Inuyama castle and the nearby castle town. It takes about 25 minutes from Nagoya Station to Inuyama Station by μSKY Express. The castle town spreads out within a 20-minute walking distance from Inuyama Station, so you can enjoy a stroll around. There are also special tickets available such as the Inuyama Castle Town Ticket, which includes a train ticket to Inuyama Station and an entrance ticket to Inuyama Castle.
I wanted to try dressing like a “Geisha”, so I went to Honmachi-dori and rented a kimono from a kimono rental shop, Biyori. Walking at Honmachi-dori with a traditional kimono on really felt like I was being transported back to the Edo period (1603~1868).
The main street of the castle town is called Honmachi-dori, a 600m long street lined with old style buildings and houses reminiscent of the Edo period. There are many restaurants, cafés and souvenir shops lining both sides of the street. Even if you can’t shop at all of them, at least don’t miss your chance to take as many photos as possible here!
Still with a kimono, I walked around 7 minutes to Inuyama Castle. Inuyama Castle is located just at the end of Honmachi-dori. Inuyama Castle was build in 1537, and is a fine example of a samurai castle still in its original structure.
After strolling around for a few hours around Inuyama Castle and Honmachi-dori, I ended my 5 days of Tokai exploration. From Nagoya station, I went back straight to Tokyo by shinkansen.
Tokai region for me is a hidden gem with so many interesting and beautiful places that most people might not be aware of. As a region overall, it is also becoming more Muslim friendly by providing foods safe for Muslims travelers to consume as well as prayer spaces. I think this makes Tokai region a great place to visit and explore for everyone!
