Hokkaido is famous for its vast and colourful flower fields, and this driving route takes you to some of its most iconic destinations like Hokuryu Sunflower Village, Shikisai-no-oka, and Farm Tomita. Drive along the incredibly scenic Patchwork Road, and stock up on some Hokkaido specialties along the way.

Hokuryu Sunflower Field
True to its name, Hokuryu Sunflower Field showcases a staggering 2 million sunflowers blanketing an expansive space of 23 hectares. These flowers are at their best in summer from late July to late August, coinciding with the Hokuryu Sunflower Festival – a free event with mazes, themed foods including sunflower ice cream which contains sunflower seeds, and more.

Patchwork Road
This road takes you across a landscape that literally looks like a patchwork of different shades of greens, reds, purples, and yellows, hence the name Patchwork Road. Along the undulating, 14km-long road, take in lovely views of the many beautiful spots of farmland, hills, and flower fields.

Shikisai-no-oka
Shikisai-no-oka is a colourful flower garden set against a backdrop of the Tokachi mountains. From April to October, several dozen species of flowers and grasses flourish in this hilly landscape which you can also explore on buggies and carts. Summer is when most of the flowers bloom.

Farm Tomita
Farm Tomita is most famous for its lavenders which typically bloom from late June to early August, when vibrant purple fields spread across the entire landscape. Sample some specialty lavender-themed sweets and drinks, and bag some unique local souvenirs from the many shops scattered around the farm.

Furano Marche
Furano Marche is a shopping plaza where you can stock up on many of Furano’s local specialties. There are about twenty shops, eateries, and restaurants where you can pick up unique souvenirs like Furano cheese and wine, or savour some local fare at the open plaza.
