Calm yourself in this hot spring oasis

Beniya Mukayu ryokan, perched on a hill over the town of Kaga, looks out at the serenity of this valley. This area has been a destination for those needing space for introspection and healing for more than a thousand years. The name “mukayu” translates to “non-existence,” a concept to consider while calming a busy mind. This 17-room, modernist ryokan keeps true to its motto, “Open air, open space” with thoughtful use of large windows and sliding doors to meld indoor spaces with the natural world. Every part of this stunning construction references the natural environment around it.

Start the morning with a sunrise yoga class and, in the late afternoon, participate in a traditional tea ceremony. After a hike through the surrounding cedar forests, relax your mind and body in the hot mineral water in the indoor or open-air hot spring. Dinner is served at sunset when golden-hour light streams through the forest leaves upon a multi-course menu composed of seasonal ingredients from the surrounding valley. You will leave Beniya Mukayu full of nature, your mind calm, and your body relaxed.
