Michelin-starred restaurant innovating traditional cuisine in a refined setting

Ryotei Cuisine at Zeniya

Zeniya, nestled behind a discreet facade in Kanazawa’s otherwise bustling Katamachi district, is popular among local gourmands for its dynamic take on high-end Japanese cuisine. The restaurant has no fixed menu—Chef Shinichiro Takagi, the second-generation owner, and his younger brother, Executive Chef Jiro Takagi, create ever-evolving dishes that honor Japanese culinary tradition while consistently incorporating new ideas. Zeniya is a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux group and holds two Michelin stars.

Chef Takagi creates seasonal dishes that highlight the region’s bountiful natural produce. He personally visits local markets to select the finest ingredients. Each dish is tailored to the season and guests' preferences.

Zeniya's dining atmosphere is also carefully designed. It features six private dining rooms, with the largest accommodating up to 25 guests. At the counter, diners can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen. The tableware and floral arrangements are thoughtfully chosen from local artisans who share Chef Takagi's artistic sensibility.

More than just a memorable dining experience, Takagi hopes to pass on his culinary passion to the next generation, while also further establishing Ishikawa on the global gourmet map.
