Tokyo is known for its skyscrapers and commercial districts, but there are plenty of quiet spaces filled with serene nature. There are gardens and hotels around the city where you can enjoy seasonal nature and traditional Japanese culture. Experience the charms of Japan at these attractive locations.
It is said that the lush green Happo-en in Shirokanedai, Minato-ku was named due to how beautiful it looks from every angle (“happo” literally translates to “eight directions”). There are restaurants and function halls within the stunning garden and plenty of good photo opportunities. The garden’s strolling paths take visitors around a quaint pond past elegantly crafted scenes and historical buildings.
Kochuan is a restaurant on the grounds of Happo-en. The historic sukiya-zukuri style building offers great views of the garden, and guests can enjoy seasonal scenery from every room.

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, located in a rich natural environment, has scenery that reflects the beauty of Japan’s distinct seasons. Strolling through the gardens, enjoy camellias in shades of white and red in January and February, and twenty varieties of cherry blossoms in March and April. Early May is the time of fresh greenery with Japanese iris, azaleas, and hydrangeas coloring the gardens; May to June is firefly season, lighting up quiet garden thickets at night. Late summer brings lush greens, cool breezes and thick clouds; in the autumn, the turning foliage covers the hillsides with a patchwork of color; snow blankets the gardens in winter.
The restaurant Ryotei Kinsui is on the banks of Unkinchi Pond in the hotel’s Chinzanso Garden. The garden is open to hotel guests and diners, and is renowned for the mystical scenery of unkai (or “sea of clouds”), a phenomenon that can be seen as you stroll the gardens after your meal.
The restaurant offers Muslim-friendly course menu options for visitors to enjoy with peace of mind. The foods are prepared with tastes and techniques that have been handed down for generations.
