Fun Things to Do in Fujisawa and Enoshima

shonan area

With its relaxing vibe and proximity to the sea, Shonan area is perfect for a day trip. Located southwest of Kanagawa Prefecture along the coast of Sagami Bay, it’s just an hour’s direct train ride from Tokyo.

You’ll arrive at Fujisawa City first, where you can have a meal at Ibuki Farm Restaurant. Experience hands-on seasonal fruit-and-vegetable harvesting in the morning, followed by a healthy and hearty lunch at the restaurant. The dishes served here are made with locally grown produce and homemade fermented ingredients. Even the rice served comes from a local organic rice farm that uses ducks to eliminate insects and weeds, so it’s pesticide-free. The farm is best accessed via bus to Keio University Entrance, from Shonandai Station.

enoden train

After lunch, take the Odakyu Enoshima line to Fujisawa Station and transfer onto the classic Enoden train headed for Enoshima Island. This retro train line is the best way to get around prime sightseeing spots along the Shonan coast. It’s also known for appearing in many TV drama, movie, anime, and manga works.

Don’t be fooled by its tiny size: Enoshima Island has plenty to keep you busy till dusk. When you stroll along the seaside, you’ll notice plenty of vendors selling snacks topped with shirasu (tiny whitebait fish). It’s a local delicacy!

Don’t forget to hike up to Enoshima Shrine, one of Japan’s Three Great Benzaiten Shrines. The sunset view from the top is breathtaking.

You can also enjoy a panoramic view of Sagami Bay from the Enoshima Sea Candle observation deck. Special illumination events are held during certain seasons; watch the island transform into an ethereal wonderland!
