Ennichi 2007 Place: Memorial Room (Willard Straight Hall) and Ho Plaza, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. Time: September 15, 2007, 8PM-1AM
Ennichi is the annual Japanese summer festival hosted by JUSA, the Japan U.S. Association, at Cornell University. This year, Ennichi was held mainly indoors due to bad weather, but it still attracted around 760 people.
We had many Japanese foods, such as yakitori, takoyaki, yakisoba, okonomiyaki, crepes, choco banana, cotton candy, and kakigouri, as well as games such as kingyo-sukui (gold fish scooping), yoyo-tsuri, origami, and calligraphy. The highlight of the night was a taiko performance by Yamatai, the Japanese drumming team at Cornell. The guests paid just $1 for all the food, games, and the taiko performance.
People gather around in Memorial Room for the Yamatai performance.
The guests consisted of a diverse group from the Cornell University community, including undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, not only Japanese and Asian, but from various ethnic groups.
Some of the food was distributed outside, such as yakitori, yakisoba, takoyaki, and okonomiyaki.
Kingyo-sukui, like in a summer ennichi in Japan!
People from Amnet came all the way from New York City to hand out pamphlets and to raffle off discount flight coupons!
This event was made possible by months of planning on part of JUSA, many volunteers preparing food for 800 people and helping with set-up, and funding by CU2nite.
