New York – October 3, 2023: Japan has been named the world's favorite travel destination by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler in the 2023 edition of the magazine's annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Tokyo was also designated the world's second most favored "Big City" and the Seven Stars Kyushu train was named the #1 Best Train Trip in the World, among other accolades.
"We are beyond honored to receive this recognition from Condé Nast Traveler readers from all over the world," says Atsumi Gamo, the President of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). "Despite the impact of COVID-19, we are pleased to see that the U.S. travel industry is experiencing a strong demand for travel to Japan, surpassing pre-pandemic levels with an estimated 1.3 million visitors so far this year, a 13.9% increase compared to the record-high number of visitors in 2019."
2024 has been designated as the U.S.-Japan Tourism Year by the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), to further enhance mutual tourism and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The 2023 Readers' Choice Awards will be detailed in Condé Nast Traveler's November 2023 issue, which hits newsstands this month.
