New York – October 7, 2025: For the third consecutive year, Japan has been named the #1 country in the world by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler in the 2025 edition of the magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Tokyo (#1) and Kyoto (#2) have been voted the top two best “Large Cities” in the world, with Tokyo leading the list for the second year in a row.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Condé Nast Traveler’s readers, which reflects the lasting popularity of travel to Japan,” says Susumu Matsumoto, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization's (JNTO) New York office. “We have welcomed a record number of visitors from the United States every month from January through August 2025, with a total of number of 2.1 million American visitors so far this year.
