New York – June 3, 2025: A record-breaking 3,908,900 foreign visitors arrived in Japan in April 2025, says the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) , marking a new all-time high in a single month and a 28.5% increase from April 2024. Arrivals from the United States to Japan saw an even larger percentage increase, with a 43% increase in American visitors in April 2025 over April 2024; and the total number of visitors from the US to Japan so far this year (January through April 2025) has already surpassed one million. With the aim of building on these phenomenal visitor numbers, JNTO is working to encourage visitors to Japan to explore beyond the major cities and highlight lesser-known regions and their unique offerings.
Since its opening on April 13, EXPO 2025 in Osaka has already attracted almost five million visitors eager to experience breakthrough technologies, new innovations, and to absorb the wealth of cultures from all over the world through the 158 countries showcasing their cultures at various pavilions. EXPO 2025 continues through October 13, 2025.
The Setouchi Triennale is one of the country's foremost contemporary art festivals, held every three years on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The 100-day festival, which continues through November 9, 2025, enables visitors to enjoy the Setouchi region during spring, summer and fall.
