Rice Paddy Art

The famous rice paddy art has roots in 1993 when farmers used a mixture of purple and yellow rice plants to paint an agricultural picture in celebration of the toil of rice cultivation and to spread awareness of rice farming and agriculture. Using the rice field as a canvas, giant pictures are created every season; depicting images from pop-culture to Japanese mythology, famous images from Ukiyo-e prints to Marilyn Monroe and Star Wars can be found when passing through by train. Some famous images include The Great Wave of Kanagawa, Godzilla, Gone with the Wind, Japanese Warlords, Napoleon Bonaparte, and more.
