Akita is historically famous for the Kakunodate Samurai Residences, offering a walk in the shoes of the samurai life. Today, Akita celebrates the Kanto Festival, one of the three largest summer festivities in Tohoku, where pole bearers balance lanterns, displaying strength, balance, and grace.
