Zao-onsen Hot Spring
Surrounded by mountains and wilderness, Zao Onsen is located about 2625 meters above sea level. Ideal for a night away from the city, Zao Onsen has many hotels, restaurants, and shops. Nearly 1,900 years of hot spring tradition can be discovered in the Zao Onsen area. The hot springs of Zao are famous for its sulfur content, and the natural volcanic waters that rejuvenate a tired body and mind. Though remarkably beautiful during the winter, some baths are only accessible from spring to fall.
