How to Get There

Rishiri is accessible by ferry.

Take a ferry from Wakkanai ferry terminal bound for Oshidomari on Rishiri Island. There are only four ferries per day depending on the time of year, so plan accordingly. The ride takes 100 minutes and costs about 2,550 yen each way (second class, unreserved seats).

June to early October is the hiking season for climbing Mt. Rishiri

The hike to the top is strenuous and for advanced hikers. Be prepared and bring adequate supplies

A taxi from the port to the campground and trailhead costs around 1,500 yen

Part of the Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park, located off the northern tip of Hokkaido, Rishiri Island is a place where you can enjoy the simple beauty of the land. There are many opportunities to get outdoors and soak up the splendid nature.

At the center of Rishiri Island is the dormant volcano Mt. Rishiri.
