This floating ryokan travels across the Seto Inland Sea. Designed by architect Yasushi Horibe, guntû features 17 wood-paneled cabins and a silver hull that reflects the changing colors of the sun and water. The vessel’s gabled roofline is reminiscent of the traditional coastal homes.

Main Guest Rooms

The guntû Suite

The bow of the ship is exclusively reserved for the guntû Suite. This is the only cabin type with forward-facing windows. The bow features two private terraces—each equipped with an open-air bath and outdoor seating—providing unobstructed views ahead and along both sides of the ship.

Grand Suite

The Grand Suite has the largest terrace among the five room types. It features floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the interior with natural light, while the outdoor terrace features an open-air bath with wide views of passing islands and local boats. Shiatsu massage treatments can also be arranged directly on the terrace.

Terrace Suite Prestige

The Terrace Suite Prestige, the largest of the three terrace suite room types, is the only two-bedroom suite on guntû and accommodates up to three guests. The suite also features connected bedroom areas and an en-suite private sauna.

Main Dining Venues

Dining

Meals on board are tailored to individual preferences, allowing guests to choose their preferred ingredients and cooking methods. Menus highlight seasonal ingredients sourced from local growers and fisheries along the Setouchi coast, prepared simply to reflect regional flavors. Choices range from sashimi to grilled dishes.

Sushi bar

guntû's sushi is supervised by Nobuo Sakamoto of Nobu in Awajishima. This six-seat sushi bar offers views of ever-changing scenery. The menu offers local fish prepared to highlight their natural flavor, with options that change according to the origin and season of the daily catch.

Featured Facilities

Engawa

Designed as a space for peaceful contemplation—much like a traditional veranda overlooking a garden— the engawa provides open-air seating with direct views of the shifting scenery of the Seto Inland Sea. Guests can sit wearing a yukata robe and order seasonal items, ranging from traditional sweets in the afternoon to savory small plates and local sake in the evening.

Lounge

The lounge at the stern features sliding paper screens that filter natural daylight into the room. The venue houses a small collection of books and serves traditional Japanese sweets with matcha, supervised by Seiichiro Kita of Kashiya in Nara. On select routes, guests may watch chefs make exquisite sweets right before their eyes.
