Just an hour’s drive from Hiroshima city via the expressway lies one of the most breathtaking nature sites in Western Japan: Sandankyo Gorge. Whether you prefer difficult hikes or taking things easy, Sandankyo offers breathtaking autumn views that you will not want to miss. After a fifty-minute hike, starting from the main entrance of Sandankyo, you’ll find yourself at Kurobuchi Pool, where you can either continue along the walkway or take a minute of repose with a boat ride. Kurobuchi’s boat ride offers you the opportunity to sit back and gaze at the skies, taking in the magnificent cliffs towering over the river. If you get thirsty, feel free to reach down for a handful of crystal-clear water. Perhaps you might even spot an Oosanshouou, a member of the second-largest species of salamander in the world! The boat ride ends at Kurobuchisou, the only restaurant in Sandankyo. Here, you can enjoy local specialties, such as trout caught fresh. Kurobuchisou also offers a wide range of vegetarian-friendly options. Come relax, reflect, and refresh yourself at Sandankyo’s Kurobuchi.
