Mirror Tide Pools, Yummy Fried Chicken, and Ziplining Await at Kagawa and Tokushima
Remember Chichibugahama Beach and how it went Instagram-viral because of the mirror reflections made by its tide pools? This 1-kilometer-long beach in Kagawa Prefecture is popular all year round with visitors, but even more so now.
Chichibugahama Beach’s tide pools are created during low tide. When the air is still, the tide pools act like mirrors, reflecting the vast sky and your fun poses. On a recent trip, I was over the moon capturing photos that showed the perfect evening reflection.
When you’re in Kagawa, don’t forget to try the famous honetsukidori (chicken thigh grilled on the bone), a local specialty as beloved as sanuki udon. It comes in two variants: mature or young chicken. Being adventurous, I decided to order both! The mature chicken is leaner and has a more muscular feel in the mouth, while the young chicken has a softer texture. My personal tip: Honetsukidori goes great with beer!
The next day, I traveled to Iya Valley, Tokushima Prefecture, to continue my Shikoku exploration. I skipped the famous Iya Valley Vine Bridge and instead went for the Forest Adventure, an outdoor park that offers safe courses on tree tops―imagine ziplining while taking in some amazing views! After putting on my safety gear, I climbed a treetop platform and wobbled over the gorge. Scary but exhilarating!
After a few exhilarating hours in Forest Adventure, it was time to recharge. My fuel of choice was Naruto Kintoki, a famous sweet potato produced in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. Its brilliant golden interior and soft, fluffy texture―quite similar to chestnut―was mouth-watering. A perfect ending to a great day!
