Mother Farm, Chiba
Growing up in KL I was never really interested in visiting farms. I’m a city girl to the core, and my favourite hangouts are shopping malls. When I visited Mother Farm I was surprised at how much I loved it, and I can say with complete honesty that it’s one of the best places I’ve been to in Japan.
The location of the farm in Chiba means that while it’s out of the city, it’s still close enough to make a day trip there from Tokyo. The animals there are what you would expect from a farm, like ducks, sheep, goats, and cows, and they’re all kept very clean and happy. The farm itself is also quite large, with green pastures and cozy buildings.
The most special thing about visiting Mother Farm was getting to see the sheep-herding show. The staff blows a whistle, and a herd of sheep emerges from the thicket with two adorable dogs working together to round them up. The sheep are led onto the hill where visitors stand, and in that moment you’ll find yourself literally surrounded by about 50 fluffy sheep. (This show is not available on Jul. and Aug. as of 2020)
There are also various hands-on activities to try here such as cooking, baking and crafting.
If you love animals or are travelling with children, Mother Farm is a splendid way to spend the afternoon out in nature.
