History of Blessed Adam Arakawa Site of Martyrdom and Memorial Park

Adam Arakawa was beatified in November 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI and is the only Beatus from Amakusa. He was a samurai who was assigned to protect the church in Shiki and its people. Despite being tortured and humiliated, he never denounced his faith. He was beheaded at the age 70.

How to get there

■ Via boat

Ride a high-speed boat from Nagasaki Mogi Port for 45 minutes. Get off at Tomioka Port. From there, it takes a 5-minute walk to the site.

■ Via car (through Kyushu Expressway)

Take the exit at Matsuhashi IC/Bypass. From there, it is a two hour and 15 minutes drive to the site.

■ Via ferry

Ride at Nagasaki Mogi Port and get off at Tomioka Port. The site is a 5-minute walk from the port.
