Story "Turkish rice" not from Turkey, but from Nagasaki By JNTO on 03 July 2017
Nagasaki’s famous local specialty dish, "toruko (means Turkish) rice", includes a pork cutlet covered with demi-glace sauce on rice pilaf and ketchup-flavored spaghetti along with salad on one plate. Although it has the word "Turkish" in it, it has no connection with any dish in Turkey. Moreover, this dish is very rarely served outside Nagasaki Prefecture. Each item has a different flavor, but they get together and create one amazingly delicious dish.
In Nagasaki, toruko rice is available at many cafés, diners, and restaurants, and it is said that the number of places serving this dish may be close to 100 in Nagasaki City alone. Each place has its own flavor and combination, and some places serve very different versions of the dish. You can compare different kinds of toruko rice and find your own favorite!
