A nationally famous spot of incredible autumn beauty, with a festival to match

A beautiful ravine stretching from the Iimori Mountains to the Tomoe River in Aichi Prefecture near Nagoya , Korankei Gorge is a stunning place to enjoy the transforming seasonal colors. It is said the region's maple trees were planted by 17th-century monks.

How to Get There

Getting to Korankei Gorge can be a little challenging and will require bus and train transfers, but it's worth the effort.

There are several options from Nagoya . The recommended route is to take a train bound for Fujigaoka from Nagoya Subway Station, transfer at Fushimi Station to a train bound for Toyota City, and get of at Josui Station. Transfer to the Toyota Oiden Bus to go to Korankei Gorge . The bus from Josui Station takes about an hour. To get to Nagoya, Take the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen from Tokyo Station.

Magnificent maples

There are over 4,000 maple trees in Korankei Gorge , and every year locals and visitors from all over the country flock to the area in November to enjoy the annual Korankei Maple Festival.

Performances that illuminate the night

As you stroll along the mountainous ravines and through the park, try some of the delicious festival food on offer and keep an eye out for the many traditional performances.

There's taiko drumming along with numerous other events. Each evening during the festival period the trees are illuminated from sunset, giving the area a magical glow that is truly breathtaking.
