The celebrated Tsukiji market will close its doors on October 6th, 2018. The wholesale market is renowned as one of the biggest fish markets in the world. After opening in 1935, Tsukiji also handles the distribution of foods and flowers in central Tokyo.

The closure will mark the opening of the new Toyosu market which will open on October 11th following a four-day move. The Toyosu market is located about 3 miles away from the Tsukiji market, where it can be easily accessed by the Yurikamome train line. The nearest station is Shijo-mae.

The old market will be turned into a transportation hub accommodating a major thoroughfare and parking structure scheduled to be completed in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games.
