Lake Towada
At the end of the Edo period, Lake Towada was used for irrigation, but now is an excellent fishing location for trout, salmon, carp, and Japanese eel. Temperate forests surround the lake, becoming notably beautiful during the autumn for fall foliage. Today, a leisurely lake cruise can display stunningly beautiful views of the high mountains bordering Aomori and Akita. With a depth of 1075 feet, Lake Towada is the third deepest lake in Japan, but has waters so clear, a depth of up to 35 feet can be seen by the naked eye.
