In order to alleviate the tourist congestion and create a more pleasant atmosphere for visitor's to the traditional village of Shirakawa-go, the local tourist association will begin a reservation system for the popular nighttime Light-up Event starting in 2019. Travelers will still have the ability to stay overnight in the village or visit as part of a day trip provided that bookings are made in advance through the association, a travel agency, or bus company.
