Japan's Majestic Scenery and Cycling

When you want to explore more of the countryside of Japan, cycling is a great choice. Whether you prefer riding a short distance to explore a village or tour an entire region, the adventure and scenery will ensure a memorable trip.
We have listed below one of the scenic bike routes in Japan.

SHIMANAMI KAIDO: Hiroshima & Ehime Prefecture

Shimanami Kaido was selected by CNN as one of the top seven cycling courses in the world. The cycling road is breathtaking as you cycle on the highway that takes you across the Seto inland sea connecting Imabari city in Shikoku Island to Onomichi city in Honsyu on the main island. While cycling, enjoy the many magnificent dotted islands with nine individual bridges. There are many rental cycling terminals along the route that also offer electric assisted bikes.

"Cycling Shimanami" is a non-competitive international cycling event that welcomes about 7,000 participants. The event will be held this year on October 28th. The event offers a total of 7 courses to suit all levels of cyclists. The distance to cycle varies from 19 miles up to 87 miles. The longer round trip is a great adventure that involves a ferry ride together with cycling. Participate in all the fun cycling events that can be enjoyed by beginners and families. Along the route indulge in local foods such as fresh seafood and ramen.

BIWAICHI: Shiga prefecture

If you travel to Kyoto, it is a great idea to extend your trip to Shiga prefecture to the east of Kyoto. Biwaichi offers a 124 mile cycling opportunity around Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan and the symbol of Shiga prefecture. Experienced cyclists can complete the route in one day, but many cyclists take the trip over a one or two day period staying overnight to ensure they can enjoy the sightseeing and local shops. There are many scenic spots offering a whole range of fun activities to enjoy, such as the Biwako Ohashi Bridge and historical Hikone castle. Many of the tourist facilities in Shiga will offer a rental bike service. At Japan Railways' Maibara station, guided tours are offered providing a great opportunity for young families to purchase rental bikes and enjoy the area. There is also a mobile repair service on call for your peace of mind!
