Central Japan Railway Co. has debuted the sleek new design for the upcoming Shinkansen N700S, aptly dubbed the 'Shinkansen Supreme.' Although service will not begin until 2020, test trains will begin operating in March of 2018. The new design will give the train a smoother, quieter ride with air resistance when entering tunnels and will include upgrades for travelers such as individual in-seat charging ports for electronic devices. The Shinkansen Supreme will travel at the same speed as its predecessor (300 km/h) but will consume less energy and will be 11 tons lighter with a quicker breaking reaction time for added safety.
